Buccaneers Quotes: Friday, December 19, 2014

BUC BIT OF THE DAY: Since Raymond James Stadium opened in 1998, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers own a 7-1 mark there over the Green Bay Packers.
Below is a brief selection of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quotes from today’s earlier media availability:
Head Coach Lovie Smith
Running Back Doug Martin
(Opening statement)
“Major Wright is out this week. Besides that, everybody else is kind of listed as questionable – done something to give us cause to think that they might be ready to go this week. Great opportunity in front of us with who we’re playing. We know all the names. We realize Green Bay is Green Bay and how they travel and all that – what a great opportunity for us.”
(On why the running game has not been as productive in the second half of games this season)
“I’m not trying to be smart, but if I knew that, we’d be doing something about it. We haven’t done as good of a job as we need to during that time on anything really. So all you can do is just keep trying to get it done, to get some production from it. Running game-wise though, just overall, I’ve seen signs of life lately. Doug Martin, a couple of good games he’s put together; Charles Sims now is healthy; Bobby Rainey. So this is kind of the group.”
(On if he is at all ambivalent about the value of winning either of the final two games of the season)
“A great friend of mine, Herman Edwards, says, ‘You play the game to win.’ So I’m going to leave it at that. Every time you compete, that’s how it goes. So our football team is going out there, they’re going to give it their best shot, like we do – if we were 12-2 right now, I would be disappointed if we didn’t get the same effort. So that’s what we’re trying to do. What pick we end up [with], that will work itself out. I believe in fate, so that will work itself out.”
(On building off last week’s first half performance)
“We got the running game going last week and we restructured the [offensive] line a little bit moving [Demar Dotson] to the left tackle and [Oniel] Cousins to the right tackle and we’re progressing in the running game. I’m anxious to see what we’re going to do this game.”
(On if the offensive will be better after having a week under their belt)
“As games go and these guys work with each other, they’ll be jelling pretty well and I’m pretty excited to see what they can do against the Packers.”
(On needing to run the ball in order to keep the Green Bay offense off the field)
“We know what Aaron Rodgers can do and that is something that we talk about with our offense being on the field more so we can keep their offense off the field.”
