Buccaneers Quotes: Friday, December 4, 2015

BUC BIT OF THE DAY: In the first three weeks of the season, Tampa Bay converted nine-of-40 third down attempts (22.5), the second-lowest percentage in the NFL. Since Week 4, the Buccaneers lead the league in third-down conversion rate, having converted 52 of the 106 third downs the team has faced (49.1 pct.).

HEAD COACH LOVIE SMITH

(Opening Statement)
“Injury list, we ruled out two players right now; George Johnson and [Jacquies] Smith for sure. Gerald McCoy and Bruce Carter – neither one has practiced this week – they’re doubtful right now. Besides that the rest of the guys should be available Sunday. We realize how important this game is, we can’t wait to play.”

(On defensive tackle Gerald McCoy’s injury status)
“[The injury report] says limited. Limited can mean an awful lot of things. He was out here, dress, it’s not a full-speed practice so you can be pretty limited and do very little. He did very little.”

(On the importance of this game and if players need to play through pain and injuries)
“If you have pain you play, but if it’s an injury you don’t. That would be the case with our players right now.”

(On tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins)
“He’s practiced all week and we have him listed as limited. Limited can mean a lot of things. He has looked good. This is as advanced as he has been, as far along as he has been in a long time. We’re encouraged. We’ll see what happens on Sunday.”

(On if Seferian-Jenkins has been cleared for full contact)
“Austin has been cleared for full contact and he has looked good this week.”

(On the offense being 49.1 percent successful on third-down conversions since Week 4)
“I didn’t realize we were that high since that period of time. I know we’ve been good on third downs. You keep drives going. You have an opportunity to have something successful when you can be that good on third downs. We’ve been fairly good in all areas offensively. When we eliminate the turnovers, which we’ve done, been running the ball fairly well, the passing game has been pretty good, so it doesn’t surprise me.”

(On defending Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones)
“You look around the league, we have Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans on our football team so we don’t have to get ready for those guys. Looking at opponents out there, Julio Jones is about as tough as [they get]. There are a few really good receivers in the league. You can make a case for him being the best in the league. It is tough duty. [He has] size, speed, competitor, you saw how hard he played the first time around – an interception to just sprint all the way down and get us down. Again, he’s one of the great players in the league. We look forward to playing him. He’s a good player, but in order for us to achieve our goals we need to be able to play well versus good players.”
