Buccaneers Quotes: Friday, December 5, 2014

BUC BIT OF THE DAY: Tampa Bay Head Coach Lovie Smith holds a 13-5 career record against the Detroit Lions, including winning nine of the last 10 he has coached against them. The Buccaneers have won five of their past six road games against Detroit, including a 21-14 victory last season.
Below is a brief selection of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quotes from today’s earlier media availability:
Head Coach Lovie Smith
Linebacker Mason Foster
(Opening statement)
“Injury list … When guys don’t practice on Fridays it’s not a good thing and Anthony Collins, Clinton McDonald, Brandon Myers, Bobby Rainey and Austin Seferian-Jenkins all weren’t able to practice, but it’s not like they have broken legs or anything like that – we listed them as questionable. The ideal world, as I’ve said, you would like for guys to have practiced sometime, but if it’s a starter that has played a lot of ball, [I] feel like he’s mentally ready to play and whether he’s physically ready to play we’ll let it go right up until the game. Some of the guys that we’ve gotten back this week – one in particular is Lavonte David, he put in a good week of practice and that’s always a good sign. That’s all I can tell you about the guys right now and not much more than that.”
(On when tackle Anthony Collins elbow injury occurred)
“When did he initially? When did an offensive lineman initially [get hurt]? Sometime during the season, but [this week] that’s when it was so serious that he couldn’t practice and it was somewhere around there.”
(On if the left tackle is a hard position to replace)
“That’s definitely one of them. There’s a few, Mike linebacker, Will linebacker, corner, you could kind of go through the list a little bit and the quarterback is definitely one. Some of the quarterbacks that have played – the Brett Favre’s of the world that have an unbelievable streak of consecutive games and Peyton Manning – it’s hard to [have those streaks] because now defensive ends and defensive lineman have gotten a lot better and are getting a lot more sacks – they’re getting pounded to the turf a lot more it seems like now it seems like. I don’t know how it happened, but if you can go through a year – you can look at a lot of statistics – and be injury-free, that has as much to do with winning and losing consistently as that turnover ratio and penalties as I talk about.”
(On facing Detroit’s offense)
“It’s going to be tough, they have a lot of weapons. [They have] a great quarterback, great receivers and some good backs, so it’s going to be tough, but you just have to go out there – we have a great gameplan – we have to go out there and execute and make plays. It’s us against them and we have to come out and make more plays and walk out with the victory.”
(On getting linebacker Lavonte David back)
“It’s big. Those guys did a great job of filling in for him, but I’ve been playing with Lavonte for three years now, he’s like my best friend and it goes without saying some of the stuff that he does on the field and what we do together and it’s good to have him back. It’s tough out there without him. We had a lot of great linebackers that filled in for him, but Lavonte is Lavonte and it’s good to have him back.”
