Buccaneers Quotes: Friday, October3, 2014

BUC BIT OF THE DAY: The Buccaneers recorded five sacks at Pittsburgh (9/28). If they record five or more sacks at New Orleans (10/5), it will be the first time they have done so in consecutive games since 2004 (11/14/04, at Atlanta-11/21/04 vs. San Francisco).

Below is the transcript of Head Coach Lovie Smith’s earlier media availability:

HEAD COACH LOVIE SMITH

(Opening statement)
“Injury list: Larry English, Mike Evans and Dashon Goldson. We’ve ruled them out. Rest of the guys could be out. [They] at least practiced on a limited basis – except for Josh [McCown]. Josh wasn’t able to do an awful lot, but could possibly play if something happened to our quarterback, our backup quarterback.”

(On linebacker Mason Foster’s status for Sunday)
“We list him as questionable. 50-50. Is that what questionable is? 50-50? He’s getting better each week. He’s done just about everything we’ve asked him to do this week. We’ll kind of see.”

(On if defensive end Michael Johnson will be limited this week with his ankle injury)
“Limited? Yes. He was limited last week too though. He hasn’t taken all the reps this week, but [he is] improving. Ankle [injuries] normally linger for a while. Once you get one during the season, you’ll never be one hundred percent again. But hopefully if he’s up and ready to go it won’t affect him that much.”

(On if any of the injured players had any setbacks this week)
“No. Not that I would tell you. If there was a setback, I definitely wouldn’t tell you. So take that answer for [what it’s worth]. You can understand why.”

(On if having faced quarterback Drew Brees in the past helps to prepare for him)
“I think after you’ve been in the league for a while, each week you’ve faced an opponent most of the time – unless they’re rookies. And as far as helping, [this is a] different team for us. But those are just good football players. The reason why we’re talking about it is because Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He’s a challenge no matter where you are [or] when you play him. He’s a challenge and it will be a challenge for our defense.”
