Head Coach Dirk Koetter
Linebacker Kwon Alexander
Head Coach Dirk Koetter
(On having the team in mock game situations in practice)
"It was good. A lot of situational work that usually we just do in a walk-through, so [it was good] to do it with the people in here, a little bit of noise – maybe it was the air conditioner – situational work that's hard to practice full-speed, and with officials. So it was some good situational work."
(On how he would assess the first week of camp)
"Well, I don't think there's a coach who's ever satisfied with where you're at. I like how the guys are working, I like how their attitude is, but we have plenty of work to do still."
(On how the atmosphere of this year's camp compares to that of last year)
"I wouldn't compare because I just don't look at them like that. This year is this year and these guys are working hard to be the best we can be."
(On if the red zone work was all designed to be last-second plays)
"Those were all final plays. Those were all four-seconds, need a touchdown, last play of the game. So from an offensive standpoint, [those are] very difficult plays to score. If you noticed, the defense had a lot of guys in the end zone. So those are tough situations and the defense is going to win most of those."
(On Bryan Anger's punts repeatedly hitting the ceiling)
"It's a Catch-22. I'm sure Bryan wanted to show the crowd that he could hit the roof; I wish he wouldn't have done it every time."
(On any undrafted rookies who have stood out)
"I'd say Shaun Wilson, the running back, on offense. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, everybody out here is working hard. I know you guys always want me to pick guys out and that's just hard for me to do right now because we're not really doing enough to [make that determination]. Let's get through games, let's get through the Miami game next week and we'll have a better idea."
(On if the current absence of Brent Grimes is helping younger corners get more work)
"Yeah, definitely. You don't want to see anybody get hurt but for Brent Grimes to be out is not terrible and it does give those other guys more reps."
Linebacker Kwon Alexander
(On what he thinks the defense is going to be like this year)
“We’re looking nice. I’m just ready to go play somebody else- play another team and see how we’re going to work out. But, I got a lot of faith in my defense and I think we are going to be ready.”
(On if the new players on the defense have changed his mentality)
“Most definitely. That’s why you get to know your players and what they’re great at. Practicing, you see that. It changes your thoughts and how you play the game and it helps me a lot. I have changed mine a lot.”
(On taking his game to the next level this season)
“Just do what I’m supposed to do you know. Do everything I’m supposed to do and make sure everything is right. As a leader of the defense, make sure everybody is doing what they’re supposed to do and we’re going to rock and roll.”
(On how the defensive line is going to help the linebackers)
“Those guys are going to get after the quarterback. They’re going to get after the quarterback. We’re going to get a lot of sacks, a lot of turnovers. And then they can stop the run too. They set the edge doing whatever they’re supposed to do, whatever defense we call. We’re going to do alright man, we’re going to do alright.”
(On defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul as a player)
“He’s just an animal He’s a freak. He does whatever he’s supposed to do. He rushes the passer [and] sets the edge. His energy level is high. He has fun with the game. He loves the game and that’s what we need.”
