Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints Postgame Notes (12/28/14)

- On the first play of the game, WR Mike Evans caught an eight-yard pass, bringing his season total to more than 1,000 receiving yards. On the very next play, WR Vincent Jackson grabbed an 11-yard reception, to give him more than 1,000 yards on the season. Evans and Jackson are the first pair of teammates in Buccaneers history to each have 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. Their 2,053 combined receiving yards are the third-most by a duo in Buccaneers history.

- With today’s totals, Jackson has his fourth consecutive season with 1,000 or more receiving yards, including all three seasons he has played for Tampa Bay. Jackson’s three seasons with 1,000 receiving yards tie Joey Galloway (2005-07) for the most in franchise history, as well as the most consecutive. Jackson has six career 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
 
- Evans finished today’s game with five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown reception was his 12th of the season, establishing a new franchise record.

- The Buccaneers scored first in today’s game, with K Patrick Murray connecting on a 39-yard field goal. Murray has made his last 12 field goal attempts.
 
- On New Orleans’ second possession, DT Clinton McDonald recorded Tampa Bay’s first sack of the game, dropping Saints QB Drew Brees for an eight-yard loss. McDonald has 5.0 sacks this season.
 
- In the second quarter, Buccaneers LB Lavonte David tackled Saints RB Mark Ingram for a two-yard loss, forcing a fumble that went out of bounds. David has four forced fumbles this season, tied for the third-most in the NFL this season and the most by a Buccaneer since Stylez G. White tallied seven in 2007.
 
- With under two minutes in the first half, RB Charles Sims scored his first career touchdown, an eight-yard rushing score, capping off a 10-play, 74-yard drive.
 
- Following the Buccaneers’ touchdown, the Saints turned the ball over, with Clinton McDonald tipping a pass from Brees that was intercepted by CB Leonard Johnson. That is Johnson’s first interception of the season and the fifth of his career.
 
- DT Akeem Spence recorded his third sack of the season on the Saints’ opening drive of the second half, bringing down Brees for a five-yard loss. Spence has four career sacks.
 
- The Saints’ drive was stopped when Tampa Bay S Bradley McDougald intercepted Brees in the end zone, the first interception of McDougald’s career.
 
- The Buccaneers recorded their third interception of the afternoon on the Saints’ next drive, with S Keith Tandy tallying his first pick of the season, the fourth of his career.
 
- Tampa Bay’s three interceptions are tied for their most this season (also at New Orleans, 10/5/14 & vs. Cincinnati 11/30/14).
 
- RB Doug Martin recorded a season-high 108 rushing yards in today’s game, his most since tallying 144 vs. New Orleans last season (9/15/13). Martin now has seven career 100-yard rushing games, tied for the seventh-most in franchise history.
