BUCCANEERS PLACE RB CHARLES SIMS ON INJURED RESERVE; PROMOTE FB AUSTIN JOHNSON FROM PRACTICE SQUAD

Team Also Makes Practice Squad Moves
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that the team has placed running back Charles Sims on Injured Reserve and promoted fullback Austin Johnson the practice squad to the active roster.
 
Sims has played in seven games for Tampa Bay this season, starting two, rushing 51 times for 149 yards and one touchdown, while catching 24 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown.
 
Johnson (6-2, 240) was signed to Tampa Bay’s practice squad on December 13. He spent time on the New Orleans Saints’ active roster and practice squad from 2013-15, playing in 17 games, with two starts, rushing 12 times for 31 yards and one touchdown, with seven catches for 45 yards and one touchdown. The Hickory, North Carolina native originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Saints in 2013. Johnson, who played collegiately at Tennessee, wears No. 46 for Tampa Bay.
 
The team also announced that defensive end Deonte Gibson and running back Blake Sims have been signed to the practice squad and tackle Kyler Kerbyson has been released from the practice squad.
 
Gibson (6-1, 266) entered the league this season as a college free agent with the Detroit Lions. The Lakewood, Ohio native spent the offseason and preseason with Detroit. Gibson, who played collegiately at Northwestern, will wear No. 90 for Tampa Bay.
 
Sims (5-11, 218) is a native of Gainesville, Georgia and played collegiately at Alabama. He spent time on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad earlier this season and will wear No. 25 for Tampa Bay.
