The National Football League announced today that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November.
Winston completed 95-of-169 passes for 1,179 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 78 yards and three touchdowns, in leading the Buccaneers to a 3-2 record in November. His 10 total touchdowns are tied for the seventh-most in the NFL for the month, his 65 passes for first downs were the fifth-most in the league and his seven rushing first downs were tied for the third-most by a quarterback. Winston’s three rushing touchdowns, all of which came in November, are tied for the season lead among quarterbacks.
In Week 11, he threw for five touchdowns, with no interceptions, becoming the first rookie since Ray Buivid in 1937 to throw five touchdown passes and zero interceptions in a game. The five touchdown passes tied a record shared with Buivid and Matthew Stafford (2009). His five touchdown passes – to five different receivers – tied a franchise record.
Since the 1970 NFL/AFL Merger, Winston ranks third in passing yards and tied for fourth in passing touchdowns by a rookie through the first 12 weeks of the season.
This is Winston’s first NFL Rookie of the Month award and the first for the Buccaneers since 2013 (QB Mike Glennon, November). Winston joins Glennon and Shaun King as the only rookie quarterbacks in team history to have earned the award.
