BUCCANEERS QB JAMEIS WINSTON VOTED PEPSI ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

The National Football League announced today that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been voted Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 2.

Facing the New Orleans Saints, Winston completed 14-of-21 passes for 209 yards, with one touchdown and a passer rating of 114.6, while adding a rushing touchdown. His 114.6 passer rating was the fifth-highest in the NFL in Week 2 and is the fifth-best mark in Buccaneers history. Winston is the first Buccaneers rookie to win the Pepsi Rookie of the Week since 2012 (RB Doug Martin – Week 9).

“It’s always great to get acknowledged for good play by the fans and we are happy to see Jameis receive that recognition after his performance last week,” said Buccaneers Head Coach Lovie Smith. “I know his focus all along has been to improve his level of play and put this team in a position to win each week. He did a great job on both fronts last week and we look forward to seeing him build on that as the season progresses.”

Winston finished the Pepsi Rookie of the Week voting with 44 percent of the vote. Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper finished second with 25 percent of the vote followed by Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones (14), Arizona Cardinals wide receiver David Johnson (10) and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters (7).
