26 September 2016

Tomorrow – Tuesday, September 27 from 10:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – more than a dozen members of the 2016 Buccaneers Rookie Club, including Vernon Hargreaves III and Noah Spence, will visit Moffitt Cancer Center (12902 USF Magnolia Drive) in Tampa to visit with patients and families battling cancer. The group will participate in a tour of the facility to learn about Moffitt’s services and efforts to prevent and cure cancer. During the visit, the players will meet with patient families and local middle school students who are a part of Moffitt’s Healthy KIDZ program. Moffitt Healthy KIDZ is a community outreach program offered by Moffitt Cancer Center for children and adolescents of all ages, focusing on cancer prevention, healthy living and positive life choices.
In addition, the players will entertain the children and students with PLAY 60 drills. Designed to reverse the trend of childhood obesity, the NFL PLAY 60 campaign encourages kids to be active for at least 60 minutes a day. School programs, youth initiatives and community events are just a few of the ways in which the Buccaneers carry out the NFL’s commitment to youth health and wellness.
Throughout the year, the Buccaneers rookies are participating in a variety of outreach activities as members of the Buccaneers Rookie Club, the team’s long-standing effort to engage its youngest players with the local community. This offseason, the rookies have already hosted a bowling outing with Tampa Fire Rescue, visited MacDill Air Force Base, and hosted a PLAY 60 session with children from the Jackson Heights NFL Y.E.T. Center. As the year progresses, the group will continue to participate in events that support active and retired military, inspire underprivileged youth, and promote healthy lifestyles for local children.
