Team Places DE Justin Trattou on IR; Waives RB Blake Sims
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that the team has signed defensive ends Mehdi Abdesmad (pronounced Meh-DEE Ab-des-MOD) and Hendrick Ekpe (pronounced ECK-pay).
Abdesmad (6-6, 284) originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Tennessee Titans and spent the first 14 weeks of the 2016 season on the team’s practice squad, before being promoted to the active roster and playing in two of the final three games of the regular season. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Abdesmad played collegiately at Boston College. He will wear No. 78 for Tampa Bay.
Ekpe (6-5, 251) comes to Tampa Bay after spending this offseason and preseason with the Chicago Bears. He entered the league as a college free agent with the Bears this past offseason. The Minnesota product and Lewisville, Texas, native will wear No. 67 for Tampa Bay.
The team also announced that defensive end Justin Trattou has been placed on injured reserve and running back Blake Sims has been waived.
