Team Waives LBs Quinton Alston (injured) & Sammuel LamurThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have signed defensive tackle Tony McDaniel and punter Karl Schmitz and activated WR Louis Murphy, who passed his preseason physical.
McDaniel (6-7, 305) comes to Tampa Bay after spending the past two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2013-14), where he started 29-of-32 regular season games, tallying 83 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery. McDaniel also started five-of-six postseason contests for Seattle as they won consecutive NFC Championships and were winners of Super Bowl XLVIII. In those six postseason contests, McDaniel registered 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, McDaniel played collegiately at the University of Tennessee. He originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006, spending three seasons with Jacksonville (2006-08), before joining the Miami Dolphins for four seasons (2009-12). In his nine-year career, McDaniel has played in 111 regular season games, with 34 starts, totaling 202 tackles, 14 passes defensed, 10.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. McDaniel will wear No. 59 for Tampa Bay.
Schmitz (6-4, 210), who was born and raised in Bermuda, played collegiately at Jacksonville University in 2008. This past offseason, he signed as a college free agent with the Denver Broncos. Schmitz will wear No. 6 for the Buccaneers.
The team also announced that they have waived (injured) linebacker Quinton Alston and waived linebacker Sammuel Lamur.
