Players and Staff to Have Their Hair Shaved or Colored Orange by Pediatric Cancer Patients; GM Jason Licht Pledges to Have His Head Shaved if $100,000 Goal is Met
On Monday, June 4 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will continue to support the fight against childhood cancer through the annual “Cut for a Cure” to benefit the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF). Now in the team’s sixth consecutive year of participating in the campaign, in which the Buccaneers have raised more than $185,000, General Manager Jason Licht has challenged the team to raise $100,000 for this year’s event. Licht has pledged to join Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford, players and staff in having their heads shaved or colored by pediatric cancer patients if the fundraising goal is met.
This year’s event hits particularly close to home for the Buccaneers family. Recently, Bo Wade, son of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Chad Wade, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. On Monday, more than two dozen Buccaneers players and staff members are scheduled to have their heads or facial hair shaved or colored orange, the official color of the NPCF. Defensive players Gerald McCoy, Lavonte David, and Beau Allen are serving as “captains” for the charity effort, with additional Buccaneers committed to support the cause including Jameis Winston, Mike Evans, O.J. Howard, Cameron Brate, Ali Marpet, Donovan Smith, and Will Gholston.
*Media members are encouraged to attend, though the event is closed to the public. Media should RSVP to Allen Barrett at To support the Buccaneers’ Cut for a Cure team by making a donation, fans may click HERE or visit
