MEDIA ALERT: TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS ROOKIE CLUB TO VISIT JAMES A. HALEY VETERANS’ HOSPITAL FRIDAY

Team Also to Present Inaugural General H Norman Schwarzkopf Military Family of the Year Award Friday Night
On Friday, May 15, 2015 NFL Draft No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston, second round draft picks Donovan Smith and Ali Marpet, and more than 20 members of the Buccaneers Rookie Club will visit James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa to spend time with service members recovering from injury and illness. The group will take pictures, sign autographs, and visit with the wounded warriors from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the hospital's new USO Day Room, a recreation lounge for families and military personnel recovering at the hospital’s Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Center. Media covering the hospital visit should contact Public Affairs Specialist Kateriniea Littles upon arrival (813.525.2257, Kateriniea.littles2@va.gov) to be escorted to the USO Room.

Throughout the year, the Buccaneers rookies will participate in a variety of outreach activities as members of the Buccaneers Rookie Club, the team’s longstanding effort to engage its youngest players with the local community. Friday’s visit is just one example of the many ways that the team supports the men and women who have served or continue to serve in our Armed Forces. Together with USO Central Florida, the Buccaneers host a variety of military initiatives to support those who have sacrificed for others, including the military “Hero of the Game” and the Salute to Service Suite during home games at Raymond James Stadium.

On Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. the team will also present the inaugural General H Norman Schwarzkopf Military Family of the Year Award to an active-duty family from each branch of the military (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard/Reserves) who have demonstrated the values of integrity, courage, commitment and service before self while sharing in the sacrifices of service to our country. The award presentation will take place at a special banquet at the team’s headquarters, One Buccaneer Place. Each family will receive a commemorative trophy and a $500 gift card to International Diamond Center, an official sponsor of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Media interested in covering the event should contact the Buccaneers Public Relations department.

Friday’s events coincide with the celebration of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 16, when all branches of the military are honored throughout the United States. For more information on the Buccaneers’ military support, visit www.buccaneers.com/salute.
