SIGN UP TODAY FOR 2nd ANNUAL TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS TREASURE CHESTS 5K RUN/WALK & CORPORATE CHALLENGE
On Sunday, October 12, fans can join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fight against breast cancer before the team battles the Baltimore Ravens at Raymond James Stadium. Registration is currently open for the Treasure Chests 5K Run/Walk & Corporate Challenge, a community event aimed at raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The inaugural event, in October 2013, drew 1,300 registered participants, though this year’s race is expected to bring more than 3,000 runners, and is once again timed perfectly to coincide with the Buccaneers' involvement in the NFL-wide Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative.
“We invite everybody in Tampa Bay to come out and run with the Buccaneers,” said Glazer Family Foundation Co-President Darcie Glazer Kassewitz. “We’ve already surpassed the registration numbers from 2013, and with the new corporate challenge feature to this year’s race, there are even more reasons for fans and businesses to come out, have a great, healthy morning together, and go see the game.”
The route for the Treasure Chests 5K Run/Walk & Corporate Challenge winds around Raymond James Stadium, and each entry into the race comes complete with admission to that Sunday’s Buccaneers-Ravens game. The first 500 people registered for the race will get even closer to the action, as they will have the opportunity to be part of an on-field halftime experience.
New to the team’s marquee breast cancer awareness initiative this year is the inclusion of a Corporate Challenge. Corporations, and other groups of 20 or more participants, will compete for separate prizes for fastest team, largest group of participants, and most funds raised – the latter of which will be awarded with a Traveling Trophy. Registration for Corporate Challenge participants closes on Monday, September 15.
Advanced registration for individual participants is strongly recommended, and will take place through Wednesday, October 1 on the team’s official website, Buccaneers.com. Buccaneers season pass members can enter in advance for $15; entry for participants without existing season tickets can pre-register for $45. Day-of-race registration is subject to availability, and is $30 for season pass members and $60 for the general public. Each registration affords the entrant a chance to compete while raising awareness for an important cause, as well as all of the following:
• Ticket to the Baltimore Ravens vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game
• Treasure Chests 5K gender-specific athletic t-shirt
• Chipped race bib
• Donation to breast cancer research and patient services
• On-field halftime experience for the first 500 entrants
• Opportunity to win medals for first, second and third place male and female finishers in each age category
The Treasure Chests 5K Run/Walk and Corporate Challenge will take racers across a variety of terrains, including grass, and will begin and end on Tom McEwen Boulevard just south of Raymond James Stadium. There are 12 different age groups in which individual participants can medal, and all those ages 50 and over are considered to be in the "Grand Masters" category. The top overall finishers in the Male, Female, Grand Masters Male and Grand Masters Female categories will serve as the Buccaneers’ honorary coin toss captains that Sunday before kickoff versus the Ravens and will also receive two suite tickets to the Minnesota Vikings vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game on Sunday, October 26, at Raymond James Stadium.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and each year, an estimated 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with the deadly disease. As the second leading cause of death among women, more than 40,000 women will pass away from breast cancer this year. Although breast cancer is rare in men, more than 2,000 males are estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer every year, with nearly 1/5 of them losing the battle. Register now and join the Buccaneers this October in raising awareness for breast cancer research and leveling the playing field.
