TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS & UNITEDHEALTHCARE TEAM UP TUESDAY TO INSTALL LEARNING GARDENS AT LANIER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, Gerald McCoy and the Buccaneers to Help Promote Importance of Healthy Foods
What:
On Tuesday, September 20, at 10:45 a.m., Glazer Family Foundation Co-President Darcie Glazer Kassewitz and Buccaneers players Gerald McCoy, Brandon Myers, Russell Shepard, Charles Sims, Buccaneers Cheerleaders and Captain Fear, with the help of UnitedHealthcare volunteers and Lanier Elementary School teachers and students, will install UnitedHealthcare sponsored Learning Gardens at Lanier Elementary School (4704 W. Montgomery Avenue, Tampa, FL 33616). This learning garden program will provide students the opportunity to plant and nurture a garden, while learning about healthy foods and local agriculture.

Tuesday’s visit is the second step in a community project initiated on Sept. 13, when Buccaneers players and UnitedHealthcare employee volunteers gathered at One Buccaneer Place to construct the UnitedHealthcare-sponsored Learning Gardens. Along with Tuesday’s event at Lanier Elementary, this learning garden program is also being implemented at nine additional Buccaneers Academy schools: Bevis, B.T. Washington, Egypt Lake, Lithia Springs, Lockhart, Miles, Pizzo and Roosevelt Elementary Schools, as well as Carver Exceptional Center.

This is the third consecutive year that the Buccaneers and UnitedHealthcare have installed Learning Gardens at Buccaneers Academies in the area. Following Tuesday’s event, all 24 Buccaneers Academies will have a Learning Garden installed on their campuses to educate students about where their food comes from and to introduce them to new fruits and vegetables.
