Below is a selection of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quotes from today’s earlier media availability:

Cornerback Jude Adjei-Barimah
Defensive Tackle John Hughes III
Running Back Jacquizz Rodgers

CORNERBACK JUDE ADJEH-BARIMAH

(On the difference in his play from last year to this year)
“I’m a lot more comfortable. Comfortability comes with experience and I feel like last year as a rookie, I got enough experience for me to be able to be more comfortable going out there playing on Sundays. I’m in a different world now, but that doesn’t take anything away from it. I try to go out there every time and play my tail off and just try to help the team win and that’s all it’s really about.”

(On where the secondary is, communication-wise)
“We meet together, we walk-through together, we do ‘Indy’ together, we eat together, we do everything together just to make sure we get the kind of communication everywhere where it needs to be. We’re not 100%, we may not go through again where we are 100%, but we strive to be 100% and that’s the only thing that we can really ask for right now , is just keep striving to be 100% on every assignment.”

(On the team’s injuries)
“It’s hard because those are your brothers and you don’t want to see them go down, but at the same time it’s an opportunity for guys to step up. As I think about it last year, part of the reason why I got on the active roster is because of an injury. It’s an opportunity for guys to step up and to really make a comfortable role for themselves on this team and help us win. It’s the NFL, injuries are going to happen. We’d love to have [defensive tackle] Gerald [McCoy] and all those guys out there every day, but we need to the next man to step up because the standard remains the same and we have to keep up the level of play as if he were in there.”

DEFENSIVE TACKLE JOHN HUGHES III

(On his relationship with Defensive Line Coach Jay Hayes)
“He was with the Cincinnati Bengals, he actually did our Pro Day when I was at [University of] Cincinnati. So yeah, I know Coach Hayes pretty well.”

(On what he can do to help this team)
“Just working hard and competing and doing whatever you need to contribute to the team.”

(On if has more experience in 3-4 defenses)
“I played it all, I’m a jack of all trades. I’ve played 3-4 [and] 4-3.”

(On if he knows anybody on the team)
“I’ve trained a little bit with [defensive end] William Gholston a year ago. But everybody else is pretty new to me.”

(On if he excited to prove himself to a new team)
“Yeah, I really appreciate the opportunity they gave me in Tampa, just go come out here and to compete.”

RUNNING BACK JACQUIZZ RODGERS

(On if he is prepared for more opportunities run the ball)
“I always try to take advantage of my opportunity that I’m given. You’ve got to practice like you’re number one, so when your number is called, you’ll be ready to go.”

(On the team’s running game)
“We just have to make our plays when they come. We [were] one or two block away, one or two – you’ve got to break a tackle here and there to get that explosive run that would normally get you over that century mark, so I think once we start clicking in every area, we’ll get those long runs we need.”

(On if holes to run through are there during games)
“The holes are there. The O-line, they’re doing a good job in the run game. Us as running backs, we’ve got to make our plays and I think as we keep getting better each and every week, they’re going to come.”

(On if excelling on the first or second step is more important than waiting when trying to hit a hole to run through)
“It just depends what type of running back you are because everybody’s got a different way of running the ball and different styles. Some guys are more patient and some guys are ‘hit it’ guys.”

(On the key to having success running the ball against Carolina)
“Like every other week, you’ve just got to block and run hard and hit the seam when you get a chance to get a hole.”

(On playing the Carolina Panthers this week)
“It’s going to be a good game because [it is] a divisional game and we both need that win. So I think it’ll be positive for us to get that win and go into a bye week on a high note and we can start getting things rolling from there
