Transcript: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Media Availability (12/16/17)

BUC BIT OF THE DAY: Buccaneers CB Brent Grimes is tied for the team lead with three interceptions this season. Since 2013, Grimes has 20 interceptions, tied for the most in the NFL during that span (also Richard Sherman). He has 33 career interceptions, the fifth-most among active players. Grimes is the only player in the NFL to record at least three interceptions in each of the past five seasons.
Below is a transcript of Head Coach Dirk Koetter’s earlier media availability:

(On if he feels comfortable ruling out linebacker Lavonte David and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy for Monday’s game)
“I’m very comfortable saying that. I wish they weren’t, but unfortunately they’ll both be out.”
(On if cornerback Vernon Hargreaves has also been ruled out)
“That is correct.”
(On how the schedule changes for the players because of the late game on Monday)
“We’ve practiced this before. You’ve had a Thursday night game, you’ve had preseason games, so, it’s not any different than that. This will be our sixth time on this schedule this year. We talked about that the other day.”
(On his favorite Monday Night Football memory as a coach)
“You caught me off guard with that one. My favorite Monday night memory is going to be this Monday.”
(On how comfortable he is with the progress of running back Peyton Barber)
“Yeah, he’s done a good job. We are totally comfortable with any of our four backs. [If] any of those guys get out there, we are confident they’ll do the job.”
(On linebacker Kendell Beckwith being useful at the line of scrimmage)
“That’s not what he came here to do. We drafted him here to be a linebacker and that’s what he is. The way the numbers work out, you don’t play your base defense a ton anymore. In our base defense, sometimes that guy is on the ball as an outside linebacker [or] sometimes he’s in the bubble, which is where Kendell is more at home. We have had to use him – just because of the situation we are in with numbers – we have had to use him basically as a defensive end sometimes, but Kendell has done everything that’s ever been asked of him and he does it with a great attitude and goes out there and plays hard.”
(On what he calls the defense that the team utilizes most often right now)
“The defense we are in most often just by percentages would be just sub – nickel – our sub-defense, our nickel, 4-2-5.”
(On if they use 4-2-5 formation more than a 3-3-5)
“Well, we are in that the most, but by personnel we do have to get into that 3-3-5 sometimes.”
(On if he has lost any confidence in running back Doug Martin)
“No. Doug is a proven runner in this league and one fumble doesn’t change that.”
